Mountainview Family Remodel
Design Narrative
The initial visit to the property motivated an expedition up to the roof in order for the client to share the incredible mountain views from the site. The layout and form of the original house prevented direct and unobstructed viewing to this picturesque backdrop, one look set us on the clear path to create space that would capture these vistas. Two decks, one carved into the original roof and a second set atop the western single-story space, produced the perfect spaces for indulging in the surrounding natural beauty.
A cold interior, void of any vibrancy provided the jumping off point for the interior reformation. Low ceilings and dysfunctional spatial proportions were the first to go, followed by revising the circulation and use patterns of the space. Producing a lofted ceiling plane above the dining room, reconfiguring the large central stair and incorporating a second level balcony for access to the new roof deck all contributed to the open, airy feeling of the new design.
