Design Narrative

This project began with the homeowners’ clear and creative vision to update a home with dreary finishes and confined spaces. Dingy, yellowed surfaces veiled good bones and untapped spatial volume, so we instantly knew there was great potential for transformation.

The homeowners desired a more open floor plan and a new, spacious primary bedroom with 5-piece ensuite bath and walk-in-closet. Perfectly apportioned for the necessary square footage, the old garage provided the footprint for the new primary suite which, in turn, prompted the construction of a new, detached 2-bay garage and glass blowing workshop. Updating ceiling volumes, incorporating taller windows, fortifying the insulation at the exterior envelope and designing thoughtful outdoor spaces to incorporate client-made, hand-crafted touches provided the final refinements for the project. Now a functional family home for a contemporary lifestyle, this space is filled with warmth from all of the natural sources that inhabit it.
